I saw TOP for the first time in December 2011 at a show in Barrington, IL at Penny Rd Pub. They were playing with This Love, Farewell Fighter, and Lights Out Dancing. When they came on with ski masks and skelton faces I had no fucking idea what I was in for. I bought their first self titled album, and then just kind of forgot what I'd seen for a long time. When they came back with Vessel, I knew I'd known them from somewhere so I went back, found the album and couldnt wait to see what they had to put out next. I was BLOWN AWAY. I've since seen them 4 more times. At the Rave Dec 2012, where we talked about that first show and there was literally less than 30 people. Once in a small show at Marquette Univ in Milwaukee, once the next week in Madison, Wi. Where we met again. Such sweet guys, always willing to listen to a fan babble about how much they mean and what not. This last time I saw them was in Aurburn Hills, Michigan where they opened for FOB and PANIC! as well as played a sold out show.
I'm extremely proud of where they have gone since I first saw them. It's amazing for a band like them to do as much as they have in such a short amount of time. They really have brought power to the local dreamer. It's refreshing to hear a band that has such real thoughts and lyrics on real situations that all of us have some knowledge of. Their music is something I can count on to be there when I need it. It's comfort.
At the Marquette show in Milwaukee I got some lyrics written out by Tyler from Car Radio. I recently had them tattooed on my back. "Faith is to be awake and to be awake is for us to think and for us to think is to be alive." That song is absolute favorite from them. It's on repeat on a bad day. I hope to see them again soon and show them how much they mean to me and also my tattoo.
So if I could say anything to the other dreamers out there.. Be strong, our brains are sick but that's okay. We're all in this together. |-/
